Campaign Story
Hi Everyone, This is Mary Pauline Dorrington here. Some of you might know me as the proud mother of Amanda, Lauren, Beckie and Sarah. I am writing you this email to share with you a project that I created to support children with cleft palates and cleft lips (harelip).
When I was a young girl growing up in Guyana, I had a scar on my forehead. It was a very difficult time for me. The other kids called me "scarface" and I was bullied and harassed because I looked different. It is my commitment that no other kids have to endure what I did. That is why I created a fundraising campaign to raise funds for "Operation Smile" - www.operationsmile.org to provide kids who cannot afford this simple life altering surgery with the funds to do so.
Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. A child with a cleft has twice the odds of dying before their first birthday. Children with cleft conditions who survive may have difficulty eating, speaking, hearing or breathing properly. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford the surgeries they need to live a productive life. Every dollar raised will go to Operation Smile. My goal is to raise $2000.00 so 8 children can have this life altering surgery.
Thank you for your time, generosity and support,
Mary
P.S. You may notice the name Stephen de Wit on this site. He is a friend of mine that is helping me with the internet/technology side of things.
