Hello friends & strangers...

I am reaching out on behalf of my sister Robin (aka Bird).  For the sake of time & attention span, I will give the cliff-notes version.

About 2 years ago Bird was mis-prescribed ADD medications after undergoing chemotherapy.  Due to some bad drs. and lack of knowledge it is now known that anyone who has had chemo should never be prescribed stimulants... what happened to Bird is that she was subjected to some of those ridiculous side effects that you think can't really happen... I'll just leave it at that.

During this bad time it put a major strain on her marriage and things quickly unraveled.  In the end, her spouse stated to us that if she got help she could remain in the house otherwise she had to go.  We did an emergency intervention to Michigan, got her help and into a 3/4 house only to find out when we returned to FL that we were used as scapegoats and the spouse then turned and said "um... no, she can't come home".  They were together for 8 years and have known each other for 35.

This was 1 1/2 years ago and she has never been allowed back in the house to retrieve her belongings or any heirloom or personal possessions.  Bird has worked at multiple crappy jobs to make ends meet, eventually getting an apt.  I should note that she is 52 years old, has a Master's Degree in Social Work but due to the state budget cuts in Michigan, there have been no jobs in her field the past few years.

About one month ago she was in a car crash which left her with no transporation and therefore lost her the best job opportunity she had to date... couple this with loss of income and she was evicted from her apt. 3 weeks ago.  Since then she moved into 2 different situations... 1) she found a room for rent on Craigslist, interviewed the candidate, thought the house was clean & neat, moved in and found out within 2 days it was a drug house.  2) one week later moved in with a co-worker for a week who turned out the be the craziest lunatic you could possibly imagine, screaming at her, "I love you I love you why are you leaving me!!!"... she does not know this person aside from work and this occured after 48 hours.  As of 3 nights ago, my sister is technically homeless...and I say techincally as she is staying with a friend who can't really have her there but she has no permanant address and does not know where to go.

So sigh... this is a lot of drama... why am I writing this you ask? Because the basis now is that I am trying to get my sister to Florida to start her life over completely from scratch.  My husband & I are in a very volitile situation with some legal issues with my stepchildren's mother which leaves us unable to allow anyone else to move into our home at this time or she would have been here 1 year ago.

I have several angels out there who are working with me on housing options and the outlook so far for temporary shelter is good however I am looking for a few more angels to help witih some funds to set her up with food, gas, clothing, etc...  This is a lot to ask from anyone right now with thh economy & jobs the way they are but even in our own desperate times we have found a few extra bucks to help those who are in a worse place than we are.  We have helped financially ourselves too but the need is a bit greater right now.

So if you have a few extra dollars... literally... $1, $5, whatever, it would be greatly appreciated and these funds will be manned by me to make sure they are handled correctly...first and forwmost for gas to get her from MI to FL.  If you are not comfortable with cash then you may email me directly at [email protected] for an address to send gift cards for food, Target, Wal-Mart, wherever...

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this novel... I am grateful to you all as friends for simply listening.

xo Kristen Crisp

  • Wishing your sis all the best!! I was just thinking recently how if one bad thing happens to you it really makes you susceptible to other problems and your life can easily snowball out of control. I've felt on the edge there too lately. I'm so sorry and I hope things get better. xoxo

  • Something like this can happen to anyone at any moment. We need to help each other, especially within the yogic community in Gainesville.
