Opera Fairbanks is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2005 and
has been bringing high caliber, professional opera to Fairbanks since 2007.
Maestro Gregory Buchalter from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City is Opera Fairbanks' Creative Director and Conductor. With his help, Opera Fairbanks has been able to feature artists from the Met as well as many other places around the world. This includes Paul Plishka, Barry Banks, Daniel Sutin, and many others. Fairbanks' own Vivica Geneaux, has appeared in a variety of productions, and has been a steadfast supporter and advocate of Opera Fairbanks for many years. In 2014 we featured the opera "The Color of Gold", composed by local talent Emerson Eads. (Libretto written by Cassandra Tilly, co-founder).
"I've had the honor of being Artistic Director of Opera Fairbanks for 10 years. During this time I have seen the company grow immensely to the point where we are known throughout the opera world for our high level performances. I have seen the orchestra and local singers grow and I am proud that we have educated the community which has been steadfast in its support and attendance over the years. Each summer I bring professionals from all over the world and especially from the Metropolitan Opera. They come with such enthusiasm and leave with the greatest artistic experience. I look forward to many future successful seasons in Fairbanks, and encourage the community to continue it's support through donations to this fundraising effort". (Buchalter).
Since Opera Fairbanks is a non-profit entity, we rely solely on donations from local businesses and individuals. It has been through this support that we have been able to continue providing opera to the community. We simply cannot survive without your generous and continued support. Please consider supporting us once again as we enter our 13th season!
