LET'S OPEN OUR HEARTS AND GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO OPEN: OPENHEARTS TO OPENPRESENTS ❤️ 🎁
There are approximately 500-1000 children in Fisantekraal (depending on what I obtain) that will be extremely disappointed when finding out that they won't receive a gift this Christmas, unelss we can stop it. This is why I'm asking you from the bottom of my heart to assist me by contributing to the OpenHearts project so that we can once again light their beautiful smiles like the Christmas lights surrounding them. Through this we want to make sure that the trees surrounding them has something underneath them. 🙏🏽 🎄 🎁
A few weeks back I visited Cape Town. I initially flew down for a wedding but I had made the decision not to book back a ticket seeing that I had this intense urge to reach out to the communities of surrounding areas. This followed an encounter over social media that lead to me being in contact with so many modern day angels (over social media) and because of this I knew that there was something I needed to go and do there. I wasn't sure what it was, I had no plan, I just knew that I had to go and that my certainty was overwhelming.
I’m going to try and keep this very short and to the point, something I am not profoundly good at, but I want to get to the gist of this. So the story is one of a person knowing a person, knowing a person that knew two angels in Fisantekraal that was willing to speak to me and their names were: Monica Abrahams & Sarah Davids.
Now, I am dead sure that just like me they must have been equally confused, but they nevertheless showed up to the Early Childhood Development Centre (EDC) in Fistantekraal where they are teachers, to speak to this person they know absolutely nothing about. I just want to mention that on this day there were no children at the centre so they came in only for this reason, they came in to meet a confused lady from Pretoria just wanting to “chat” and boy did we chat.
They told me everything about what they do, the love they have for it and the day to day struggles that they face. Everything from the shockingly low state funding they receive to fulfil this important role, all the way to how they sometimes have to cut into their own salaries to feed the children every month. They made it very clear that the children are fed 5 times a day, 3 meals and 2 snacks. They also made it very clear that they are not willing to compromise on this and they were so proud whilst saying it. They had every reason to be. When parents are not able to pay, they make a plan, when the state doesn't pay, they make a plan. They were the epitome of unselfishness and genuine care sitting right in front of me. I was an awe of how purpose driven their lives are.
The conversation lead to Christmas and whilst tearing up they told me about something they worry about every day. They told me that they genuinely don’t know how they are going to explain to a three year old that SantaShoebox took them of the list this year and that is why they won’t be receiving a present. Santa Shoebox is an incredible organisation sourcing boxes filled with toys and necessities for children in need and they have to rotate every 2 years, as I have been informed.
My heart sunk into my shoes when they illustrated a picture of approximately one thousand small children and their disappointment when realising that something they look forward to every year is missing.
It’s not about making Christmas revolve around presents, it is however about affording these kids with that moment of bliss as they tear open a present they know belongs to them and to them only, even though their kind hearts share it with others anyway. It’s not about what they find on the inside that makes them feel special, but the fact that there is in fact something to open.
At that moment I knew why I was there, I knew that I had to help them give these children something to open, as they were already dealing with so many other issues.
So on behalf of these unselfish angles and the children of Fisantekraal, I am asking you from the bottom of my heart, that If you feel like assisting us in giving them something to open this Christmas, that you please make a contribution.
Please note that they operate a registered Non Profit Organisation and that they have all the necessary documentation to afford to companies that want to contribute.
