Campaign Story
On Friday, November 11, 2022, my wife Amy was nearly killed. She was hit by drunk driver and suffered a traumatic brain injury, along with other injuries.
It’s truly remarkable that Amy survived. Most people would not still be alive after the incredible trauma she suffered and endured.
And now there is the long and challenging road of recovery. Amy has been in acute care since that devastating night. Studies show that Amy’s recovery is competelely dependent on the care she receives going forward.
Amy now requires rehabilitation in a long term acute care facility (LTAC) that focuses on cognitive, physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Her brain needs to create new connections that were lost when she was hit by the drunk driver. Those new brain connections can be created through the intensive therapy she can receive in an LTAC.
But that costs money. This tragic experience has opened my eyes to the challenges and difficulties of funding health care. For instance, did you know that long term acute care (inpatient rehab) isn’t covered by health insurance? That was shocking to me.
Insurance will only cover the bare basics of care.
That is why I am writing this and asking for your help. Amy needs this care in order to have a chance at recovering and returning back home to us.
Please understand that ALL donations will go directly to Amy’s medical expenses.
We know that Amy’s life is going to look different. We cannot turn back time. But the proper care and therapy going forward could be the difference of being able to have a different—but full—life at home rather than placement in a nursing home.

After 3 months in the hospital and then Acute Care, Amy is now at home to continue the healing process. We are using Home Health, which by design only visits at most 3 times a week for an average of an hour a visit. I have been thrust into a. . . . .
