Campaign Story
Hi my name is Ken Makunga - founder of Open Source Ecology Botswana.
I recently conducted a survey to try and find out why there isn’t a tractor designed and made in Africa ( to suit Africans needs).
The question I asked was: Do you think Africa has the brain power to design and build a tractor?
The answer was a resounding “YES”
The next question then is why hasn’t this happened. The consensus answer is around lack of practical application and practical skills training from a young age and solving real world problems.
At Open Source Ecology Botswana this is what we are about. Our mission is to solve pressing world problems and we intend to do this using open source hardware, because it is hardware or machines that can change our world. We want to create a non-profit organisation that will have at its centre a microfactory that will design, develop and fabricate over 50 different open-source machines and we want to teach our young and old people how to design and fabricate these open-source machines.
To make our vision a reality, we need your help to raise the initial funding that we need to register the organisation and pay for legal fees as well as pay to develop the website and the business plan we have, to the point where we can apply for government and/or grant funding.
We need your donations, however small, every little bit counts, to kick-start this open-source revolution to industrialise Botswana and then the rest of Africa. It all starts with an idea, a vision. We have taken the first step on this “ journey of a thousand miles”. Help us take the second step to turn this dream into a reality.
Thank you for your kind assistance.
