Opal to the Rescue

My Name is Opal and I haven't met Trista yet (but I can't wait to ), as I am a rescue dog that is being trained as an assistance dog. I can't help and keep Trista safe and alive till her friends raise the money for me.

This is her story...
Her friends and everyone that meets her say there has never been a person more deserving of assistance than her. She never complains, whinges and has an attitude that others find inspiring, and she works so very hard. She would make an incredible ambassador for others. She is in her early 30’s and a beautiful mum to her daughter Kim (11).

TJ, as she is affectionately called, suffers from POTS DISEASE which affects her organs and nerves, with the main emphasis on her heart. She needs an assistance dog to monitor her heart rate and get her sitting down when she needs to, or support her if she should go to fall. When her heart rate rises, she passes out. This, unfortunately, happens frequently.

18 months ago she passed out and fell down a flight of stairs, damaging her L4 and L5 vertebrae and sustained major nerve damage. She has lost half her feeling in her right leg, so she needs to be careful when walking and placement.

On a good day, Trista gets around with a walking stick, a bad day.... she needs a wheelchair. She has NDSS approval, however, but alas an assistance dog is not covered.

As if Trista's life wasn't difficult enough she has been diagnosed with OVARIAN CANCER which made treatment more complicated due to her POTS.

Ten years ago Trista was told that within four years she would be bed bound. This is the usual fate of people with POTS. But Trista is a fighter she's a mum of a young daughter who needs her and she wants to set an example for her daughter to.....NEVER GIVE UP..... She Never Stops. She believes if she stops she will die. So she keeps going.

Trista is also a dog person, and very skilled in the handling and training of dogs.

Not Only will OPAL be her safety, her protector, her lifeline..she will also be that companion, her confidant when things get tough she can say the things she can't say to anyone else or wouldn't...knowing it will never be repeated, which will help her get through those tough times.

She needs our help NOW.....
