My name is Silindile Ntuli from rural South Africa, I'm a writer, a coder, a baker & here's my story.
I was a university student back in 2004 when I got a massive nosebleed one day & passed out, that day was the beginning of a whole new reality. I got sick and I kept getting sicker, my family tried everything, we went everywhere trying to figure out what was going on and also get help, but I kept getting worse. Soon I couldn't walk, couldn't speak, lost use of my left arm and hand, could barely see or hear, I started violently shaking and fainting multiple times a day, I'd swell up, get the worst headaches & a lot more things happened to me, everyday looked like my last day.
Over the years that's basically been my life, a daily struggle to stay alive, to keep breathing. I've pretty much lost all my teeth, my sight, my bones are dislocating on the regular, whole body is always in pain. I've also lost my mother and grandmother, life is very very hard.
I'm mostly bedridden, I use a wheelchair when out of bed, I can't sit on it without adding support and a strap, but I didn't wanna just lie in bed and wait for death, so I registered at Unisa because its long distance learning, I also taught myself how to code, I make websites and apps, my coding name is SomDorrie, website http://www.somdorrie.co.za, and last year I taught myself how to bake. Baking has been enjoyable, I bake under the name One Handed Baking because that's what I do, I bake with my only functioning hand. http://facebook.com/onehandedbaking
I love everything I do and wanna see them grow, but I've realized I need a better wheelchair. Sitting hurts, even my own bones start stabbing me if I sit for maybe an hour, and my current wheelchair does nothing to better the situation. I have to sit though, and work, and earn a living. I need a better wheelchair, a customized one which will be suitable for my needs, it costs about 50K, which I could never ever afford.
I'm fundraising offline by selling branded merchandise and also baking. I sell caps, hats, face masks, aprons, t-shirts, dresses, hoodies and they're all branded with OHB.
I'm here to ask for assistance, and to thank you for reading my story.
