We the Tai O Community Cattle Group (a registered NGO since 2014) are now asking for donations to make 100 Fluorescent Road Safety & No Feeding Bilingual Cow Collars for 2019. We fit them on the feral cattle in Ngong Ping, Tai O, Shek Pik, Shui Hau, Tong Fuk and Cheung Sha. We not only fit collars on new cows but we also replace worn collars as some cows rub them on trees or weather affects them. We hope that with your contributions we can continue to keep the cows more visible as they travel the road at night and stop them from being fed. We have less than 10 collars left right now so we need your help!
Over the last year and a half we have also been focusing on the harmful feeding issue our cattle face, especially with increasing tourists to Ngong Ping (Big Buddha), Lantau Island. Many people feed the cows human food which lead to dire health consequences. Cows cannot digest many types of food given such as bread, corn or even cake. They also end up eating plastic either directly or indirectly as people feed things packed in plastic. Human feeding leads to health issues and illness such as stomach/digestive problems and even death.
Our "No Feeding" Campaign helps spread awareness to the public that the cattle SHOULD NOT be fed. We have also created a video and gotten articles featured in the news but more needs to be done as there is still a huge lack of signage or public education, especially at tourist popular locations.
Each collar costs around 150HKD to make.
All proceeds will go to the following:
Creating Fluorescent Road Safety Collars
Creating "No Feeding" Collars
Printing Public Educational Materials (banners, posters, etc.)
Our group has been helping feral cattle welfare since 2014. We fit collars on the cows. We regularly correspond with local authorities to better the community relationship with our feral cattle. We monitor their health and safety daily. We have a hotline and take reports, going to scenes of accidents or finding specific cows. We also get into local media and news in order to spread more awareness of the issues our cows face daily.
We hope to do more with your help and the appropriate resources.
Help us help them to safely live free! Help us spread awareness!
