Campaign Story
MS...
Receiving a call from your parents saying its bad news is never a good start to a phone call. You automatically think who is it! What has happened? And hearing that my brother in law has been given life changing news it immediately hit home. Knowing that after a year of uncertain what ifs, and scruciating pain, it was the outcome no one wanted to hear.
Over the last year Darren Hazel has been dealing with a severe strain of MS - Multiple Sclerosis. Doctors were baffled as to what it was as his current employment could have meant his pain Developed from various different ways such as metal poising, torn muscles/nerves or numerous others. Starting from something as small as cold fingers to tingles in the hands, then the feet, to shooting pains through the body until the point of physical contact with something or someone become to painful to comprehend, in my mind was unimaginable. The not knowing or understanding made it more difficult. Now diagnosed and hearing the possible outcomes of potentially not being able to walk unsupported within a year to constant pain permanently makes you think how he has managed day to day life with Constant 24/7 pain all over up until now while still being the doting father for his family of a loving fiancée and 2 beautiful children - Lousie, Charley & Autumn
So upon hearing the news I had no idea what MS was, is it really that bad? How do you get it? And the main one when will it go away? Which when seeing the word "incurable" and the effects it has over different people I sunk. Looking back at the man who loved football, passionate golfer and a family man who always had to be jack the lad and trying to steal my spot as the clown of the bunch. It's hard to except that after all this time of trying to enjoy the things he loves so much in such pain for over a year that it's only the beginning which seems unimaginable. It's the little things we take for granted, picking up a glass without pain. Getting changed without pain and worst of all not being able to hold the ones you love without pain.
Now I kind of understand the medical side of what it is and the effect it has over the millions of people around the world I want to help. It's only when it hits home you then believe you need to do something about it. Which in all fairness is a shame that we don't think like this before its at our doorstep. As a result myself and my partner Karen Lonergan will begin the "Road To Recovery" funding in order to help themillions of others dealing with MS in other situations across the world aswell as those close to our heart.
We will be doing many events this year to fundraise for and promote MS
1st Event - Colchester Marathon - March 16th
2nd Event - Tough Mudder - May 21st
Potienal Events - Brighton to London 50mile Cycle, Ipswich Colour Run, 20 mile Rat Race, Toughest London
