Little Olive is a very special, teeny little Pomeranian girl.
It became apparent a week ago that little Olive was having some issues after receiving their first meal of puppy mush, as the puppies are now transitioning onto solid food and mom is nearing the end of her patience level with four hungry puppies. Olive was straining to use the bathroom and it became apparent that she couldn't go without the help of her mom. Within 2 days her owners had already consulted with 3 vets and 2 surgeons about the diagnosis. It was at first believed she just needed some probiotics to help her out. Unfortunately that is not the case. Olive has what is called Rectovaginal fistula. This is a rare disorder that occurred during embryonic development and left her without a bum basically. The body is amazing on how it has found a way to help her out, but she won't survive long without a surgery. She has been on mom's milk and puppy replacement only at this time, but she so wishes to eat what her big sisters are eating.
After a consultation with the surgeon, he is very confident regarding a full recovery as he's performed this surgery more than once. Also that fact she has survived 6 weeks is already testimony to her will to survive. For the most part she is a very happy little girl, running around and playing with her sisters, and of course that adorable little tail wagging. The surgeon needs to do this soon as she needs to develop and meet milestones along with her sisters and can't live on mom too much longer.
This surgery is beyond what we can cover fully on our own at this time. We are sincerely grateful for any help we may receive in helping little Olive.
