OLD LITTLE BOAT SAILING ATLANTIC FOR SUSTAINABLE LIFE

Hi All,
Dervis Dede is the name of an old sailing boat that is only as big as the smallest room of your house… Now, the home of a sailor couple will be lifting the anchor from Turkey and returning back to their homeland after completing the Atlantic Circuit in a year. The 20.000 nautical miles long voyage will be a mean to a charity campaign that will reach to thousand hundreds of supporters once we set sails for the voyage...

5 years long refitting project of the 1975 model 24 ft sailing boat that was left to rot before we bought it is about to reach home stretch. In order to finance the project we left our houses, moved in to our boat and started to bring her to a status to be capable of an ocean passage again. None of the original parts have been scrapped during this period, everything has been repaired. The boat has been rebuilt in line with our recycling policy:

•S/Y Derviş Dede is the first and only vessel which dry composting toilet system is implemented in Turkey. Black water waste discharge is zero.
•All domestic activities are powered by solar energy. All domestic pumps are being operated manually. During the Atlantic Circuit, domestic batteries will also be supported by a wind turbine.
•All service water needs and to a certain extend, cooking water are supplied directly from sea. Therefore, freshwater consumption is just about 100 lt. for the last 3 months. Rain harvesting will be made during the Atlantic Circuit.
•Except unavoidable conditions related to sustain cruising safety, Dervis Dede cruises only by wind.
•No industrial chemicals are being used for deck, interiors and inox cleaning. Orange peel acid, white vinegar and seawater based homemade mixtures are used only.

IF WE SUCCEED IN SETTING SAILS ON FOR THIS VOYAGE:

•We will be able to announce a fundraising campaign for a charity organization that will be running a campaign for at least 12 months.•Proving that small ordinary people could trigger goodness in massive scales with just a small sailing boat.
