The Oasis Project for refugees is running an appeal to raise funds for the creation of a family and community garden at the Oasis Centre in Larnaca, Cyprus.

Inspired by donations made in memory of the death of one of our volunteers, Andi Dyason, and designed by the Permaculture Association of Cyprus, this garden project will create a place of refreshment and relaxation for refugees and their families. There will be flower gardens to enjoy, vegetable beds created for planting their own vegetables and a play area for children.

All donations will go directly towards purchasing materials for the children’s play area, a water collection and recycling area, plants, herbs, shrubs and environmentally friendly materials for pathways and infrastructure for the garden.

The garden is being putting together by volunteers who are dedicated to providing a functional and beautiful space for the refugee community in Larnaca.

May 28th is the date in which the Permaculture Association of Cyprus will build the playground and water collection area, prepare the beds, cover the pathways with woodchip and do some planting.

Collection of funds will continue until June 20th, World Refugee Day. On this date, Oasis will announce the total amount of funds raised.

Our campaign has finished. We'd like to thank each of you who donated money towards the Oasis garden. The majority of the work was completed on the 28th of May. This last month we spent finishing most of the tasks. Only two things left to do. We raised 582 euros. . . . .

  • A donation made in memory of the fabulous Andi Dyason. Her luminous and joyful personality won't be forgotten. She made a wonderful impact on us when we lived in Larnaca and it's lovely to see her legacy continue in such a positive and practical way. I will be creating a corner in my garden in memory of Andi and a few other wonderful women who have left me this year. I hope the garden flourishes and brings much joy to those who seek it out.
