“SMALL SCHOOL OF BEEKEEPING”

WORKSHOP PLAN AND PROGRAMME

The project is intended for children, who learn about beekeeping and benefits of nature through practical workshops. The project is designed for children through general and technical education and their active participation in making bee hives in a traditional way, become familiar with bees community, life of bees, honey production and its importance in a human diet. The project is designed to last five days.

First day:

The first day is designed for children to meet and talk with the actual beekeeper about bees, honey and the method of preparation of bee hives. Through practical part the children will learn about the parts of the hive and its components.

Second day:

The second day is designed for active work, making parts of the hive and starting to assembly the hive. The children will be introduced to the application and operation of real tools needed for making the hives.

Third day:

The third day children will be finishing assembling of the final product and prepare it for painting.

Fourth day:

The fourth day is designed to protect the bee hive and the final painting.

Fifth day:

The fifth day is designed to take the bee hives in place, the issuing of ,,Small beekeeper" diplomas and a brochures about bees and honey. All participants of “Small beekeeper” school will be given a jar of our honey.

The purpose of the workshop is to enable young “internet generation” and to encounter them with traditional crafts and cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and importance of honey bees for the environment. Our desire is to educate children and youth, encourage them to work and enrich their life with developing an interest in making everyday wood objects, encourage them to engage in demanding projects as the development of self-confidence is important for their growth and interest them in the world they live in. The aim of the workshop is to learn about the technique of making the bee hives and the historical development of beekeeping in this region.
