Project Meraki 2019
"Sowing seeds for the future"
Hello! We are a group of students from National University of Singapore, under the Food Science and Technology (FST) course. We are here to raise funds for our first ever Overseas Service Learning trip under FST, called "Project Meraki 2019"!
Here's a brief introduction about our target group: Farmers living in Paksong, Laos, produce a wide variety of crops throughout the year. Due to their limited shelf life, such crops are only sold in local markets and cannot be transported to supermarkets in the city. This has resulted in excess produce being thrown away or left to decompose. Despite incurring huge losses from this, the farmers lack basic food processing knowledge to preserve these foods to be transported to further regions.
Therefore, the aim of our project is to develop simple food processing methods to extend the shelf life of fresh crops harvested by the farmers. Through the sharing and extension of techniques, we hope to reduce their food wastage and help them garner higher profit.
We can assure you that all donations raised would be used to fund this project. With your contributions, the farmers would definitely be able to receive much more benefits and continue to use the methods taught to them periodically.
