I am in my second year of nursing school and I am positive this is where I'm supposed to be.  I am currently living off campus with 3 housemates to save on living expenses, but the total cost per year, including tuition and living expenses is roughly $50,000. So far I am managing these costs with a scholarship, a part-time job and loans, but I am trying to reduce the debt which is rapidly accruing.  My parents are helping financially as much as they can, but they were hit pretty hard by the recession.

A little bit of history

I became interested in nursing while living in India during my Freshman and Sophomore years of high school. I attended Woodstock International School located in North India, in the Himalayas. I was inspired by my biology teacher who gave the class hands-on experience dissecting goat organs from the local butcher shop. I was fascinated by how the body functioned.

I also saw extreme poverty every day.  Most of the kids at my school were well-off, but the people who lived in the town nearby were not. Every time I went into town I encountered people who asked me for money, men, mothers holding sick-looking babies, kids, all who were clearly not receiving the care they needed.

Seeing the desperate need for healthcare in my community in India drove me to find a profession in which I could pursue my passion for physiology and help my community (wherever I live) in a practical way. Nursing seemed to be the answer, and the more I talked with friends and family who are nurses, the more I was sure that I would love it.

I am now in my second year in the USF school of nursing. Most of my classes are nursing related and I have begun my first clinical rotation in a skilled nursing facility. I can't wait to try all the other wonderful rotations that my university offers! I am fully committed to this career path and have plans eventually to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

I deeply appreciate any donations that you are willing to make! I will certainly keep this page updated with my progress in nursing school! Thank you in advance for helping me fulfill this dream!
