As you are aware i have made it through to my final year as a student nurse. I will qualify as a registered nurse after 3 years of studying with half the time working full time hours within the NHS for free. I will be left with £66000 debt in student finance loans, although this is my choice it is also my calling!

So here goes...... University have given us an opportunity for an elective placement, where we choose what we would like to experience for 4 weeks, this can be any field and any country, and like everything else it is self funded.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity where i can choose to go absolutely anywhere, so i am using the power of the internet to make it happen. After endless amounts of research and deliberating i have decided to do medical volunteering based in Faridabad, 15 miles from Delhi in India. I have found an amazing charity to facilitate this experience, therefore costs are kept to a minimum. Plan my gap year! please check it out, you don't need to be a nurse to volunteer.

I will have the opportunity to gain first-hand exposure and insight into the Indian health care system. Learn from local staff and get involved in supporting them. I could be placed in free medical camps in the slum communities, local clinics, schools and hospitals. I hope to gain as much as possible from this experience as well as give as much as possible. I will also have the chance to spend weekends travelling and exploring an amazing country that has always been on the top of my bucket list.

I am expecting the total cost of the trip to be £1500, I will be working extra bank shifts in the hospital to fund it. I am determined to make this happen!

I am truly grateful for any contributions, it has taken me a lot of courage to set this up.

Thanks for reading
