Nueva Vida After School Enrichment Program Needs Your Help

Hello Family and Friends!

I am coming to you to ask for support for one of the Mission of Friendship’s programs, the Nueva Vida After-School Enrichment Program.

Nueva Vida (New Life) operates in a low-income neighborhood in the city of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. We serve twenty-eight elementary-school-age girls from 12:30 to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year. We provide a safe, healthy and caring environment, educational support and a positive community for the girls while their parents are at work. Through healthy meals, a structured schedule, homework tutoring, values lessons and enrichment classes, we promote the development of vital attitudes and skills that empower the girls to become women who have healthy relationships, dignified work and realized dreams.

The Nueva Vida was started as a residential facility in 1996 and was transitioned to a day program in 2013, and has served many girls in its twenty-three-year history. I have never asked my personal contacts for money for mission programs before, but due to budget cuts outside of our control, there is an $8,000.00 shortfall in the Nueva Vida budget for the coming school year.

So, I am asking if you can give something for the girls.

The cost to run the program is approximately $600.00 per week, or $22.00 per week for each girl who attends. Families do make a symbolic weekly payment, but they cannot afford to pay the true cost of the program. Would you consider covering the cost of one girl for a week ($22.00), or for a month ($88.00)? Your support will make a difference in the lives of the girls!
