Benjamin Britten's Noye's Fludde

Flood seem highly topical at present, especially in Herne Hill. Whether there is any connection with human wrong-doing, which allegedly led to the Biblical flood, we will leave to one side...

However, what better start could there be to the presentation of Community Operas in Herne Hill than Benjamin Britten's Noye's Fludde, written to be performed mostly by children and by amateur musicians.

We plan to perform this amazing opera on the last day of our 2014 Festival, Sunday 19th October. The performance will involve pupils from the following local schools:
- Rosendale School
- JAGS

- as well as a large number of local musicians, the Calton Quartet, and two professional singers.

Britten based the opera on a 13th Century play from the Chester series of Mystery Plays.

We have been granted £1,000 by Dulwich Community Council towards the cost of the performance, and we need to match this through a crowd-source funding appeal.

The remaining costs will be covered by ticket sales.

Not to be missed - so please contribute to the cost if you feel able.

£20 will help towards the cost of hiring the music from Boosey & Hawkes
£50 will ensure that the orchestra has music to read!
£100 will secure the venue hire for rehearsals and the performance
£250 will go towards ensuring that the production looks and sounds good, with the creation of props, hire of sound equipment/instruments, etc.

Thank you for any help you can give!

Please note: upon donation, you will be advised that you are paying 'Sara-Jane McCabe' - Sara-Jane was the previous treasurer for Herne Hill Music Festival and we are currently trying to change this detail via PayPal, but it is taking longer than anticipated. Please accept our apologies for any confusion caused; you are definitely contributing to 'Herne Hill Music Festival'. Many thanks.

  • Noye's Fludde is a great piece and is close to our hearts since I (Rachel) sang it many years ago as a child. Hope this project gets off the ground, good luck!
