Campaign Story
Hi everyone! Thank you for taking your time to go through this campaign.
I'm Kirstie Babor-Manahan, and I'm trying my luck in starting this medical campaign in support of my father's heart surgery.
My father is Filomeno Babor, and he is 70 years old.
Last week, my father suddenly felt dizzy and could not stand. He was supposed to be on his way to fetch my mom from work, and nephew from school, when suddenly, he just couldn't stand properly or maintain stability. A few meters away from home, he had to drive back. Luckily my brother was at home, and he made my father rest and then checked his blood pressure. It was then we found out his blood pressure was over 176, which is alarmingly high.
We wanted to rush him to the hospital, but my father, being concerned with financial expenses, immediately said he was alright and feeling better. We were not convinced because you could see on his face and in his gait that he was really not feeling well at all. In the evening, they brought my father to the E.R., and they performed an ECG on his heart. That night the results came out fine. Then in the morning, they decided to go to the Cardiologist, whom they would go to for check ups. They brought the results, and the doctor was able to compare them with my dad's previous results, and the reading was definitely not alright.
The doctor advised him to have an Angiogram as soon as possible to check if there are veins that are blocked, how many veins, and the condition of each vein. This brought a lot of financial concern for us. The Angiogram alone was Php 60,000 not including hospital admission. We were able to come up with the amount needed for that test, and the procedure was done in the morning on August 7.
We were hoping and praying that if there were blocks, it would be minimal. And an Angioplasty (putting a stent inside the vein), would be used minimally. The procedure would be around Php 200,000 per vein. But sad to say, the results were a little worse than we thought. There were blocked veins, but an Angioplasty would not be effective enough since the plaque has hardened more than normal. The doctor advised for a heart bypass instead. This brought us more worries. Aside from the financial concern, the fact that my father has a potentially high risk for an attack (God forbid) has been weighing down on us.
The doctor advised us to prepare 10 bags of fresh (O+) blood together with the heart bypass surgery. The procedure alone is around 1 Million pesos not including admission fees, bags of blood and recovery state. We will also be preparing for blood test screening of potential donors which will be around Php 5,000 to Php 20,000 per blood donor screened and type of test done. The doctors advised to proceed with the surgery as soon as possible.
With this, I am trying my luck with GoGetFunding. A friend suggested this crowd sourcing / fund raising website. Any amount will be such a huge help for us. It will also be a birthday gift for my dad. It is his 71st birthday this coming August 10. It will also be a gift of a new and better heart.
Aside from PayPal, there is also a way to share through bank deposit/transfer (BDO and/or BPI).
Thank you again for going through this campaign, as well as for the help and support you have given my father. It is truly appreciated with all our hearts. Thank you.
