Northern Moore Shooting Association

In an attempt to help enrich my local community with a youth program. I would like start a local youth air rifle team in Northern Moore county North Carolina, I live in the area and know all too well that it is a very rural location with minimal resources for the youth. The local High School doesn't have a JROTC or a Rifle team and honestly there are few youth programs in the area. For instance when my oldest son played youth Football we had to drive almost 40 minutes one way each day just so he could participate. Aside from the financial burden this issue can cause it will more often directly dictate if a child can be part of a program. Your donation will allow us to purchase the land locally and acquire the needed equipment and facilities required to start this program.

The goal is to form a fully incorporated Nonprofit travel rifle team  that can participate in shooting competitions all over the region as well as have a location the youth can come to practice and stay out of trouble. This facility will be located on approx. 10 acres of land with a field house with restroom facilities for holding meetings and conducting firearm safety classes and advanced rifle instruction as well as provide the needed space for a 10 meter indoor Air Rifle Range. Youth will be properly instructed and coached on how to shoot in the sporter rifle class. Youth will learn all three shooting positions standing, kneeling, and prone and if all goes well they will get a sense of accomplishment. With success we will expand to include Air Pistol, and Trap Shooting along with small bore rifle in the future and build additional ranges to accommodate the expansion when that time comes. I expect this program to be free to youth in the area and fund raisers will be conducted as needed to help with additional funding to attend regional shooting matches.

What good will this program do for the youth? Because Robbins NC is a rural area the youth often times are raised around guns and often hunt for food and recreation. This program will not teach or endorse hunting instead the program will teach marksman ship and team spirit. Not only is this type of shooting an Olympic sport it is also a college sport in the NCAA. Well coached youth stand a good chance at being considered for scholarships on college shooting teams.

Staffing:

In order to protect the integrity of the project staffing will be on a volunteer basis after candidates have been fully checked out with criminal and financial backgrounds. All coaches will be required to be at a minimum NRA certified for the discipline they are coaching. Once the program has reached the appropriate level of success to afford having staff on payroll it will be reviewed by a board of directors to make such determinations.

My Qualifications:

I have a military and law enforcement background and I am currently an NRA certified Rifle instructor in good standing. I have been shooting for more than 20 years and have never had any type of a firearm accident. My teaching style is calm and encouraging while at the same time instilling absolute gun safety and responsible gun ownership to students. I have lived in the Robbins area for more than 20 years though it is a poor community it is a thriving community and I would like to make it better.

Insurance:

Insurance will be provided by the NRA insurance program to protect the youth, volunteers, and the stability of the project.

Initial Costs:

Land $30,000.00

Building is expected to be an industrial metal building approx. 50 x 25 to accommodate a 10 meter indoor air rifle range. Estimated cost of this is $30,000

Air Rifles are approx. $450.00 each and 10 are expected to be purchased.
