Marereni is a small village located in Kenya and exactly on the north coast of the country, not far from renowned tourist resorts (1 hour by road from Malindi, 2 hours from Lamu).

Like many other villages the level of poverty is very high, due among other things to the fact that it is not served 90% by electricity and water network (and where these services arrive residents do not have access to it for economic reasons).

Many families here are in possession of plots of land (handed down from generation to generation) that allows them to practice subsistence farming producing that little CORN that is enough to be stored and used for several months afterwards.

The production of this Corn takes place during the short rainy season that on the kenyan coast goes from June to the end of July (large rains) and then gradually enter the dry season with temperatures that reach up to 40 degrees C.

During the dry season no family can work their fields due to lack of water.

No family can afford to have a well, to be used to irrigate and also for daily life, as the expense of being able to have it is really out of reach.

Pastoralism is also practised, cattle and sheep, but in a really reduced form always due to the supply of missing water.

Our organization was born with the aim of helping to develop precisely this side of agriculture and pastoralism with a project that can change forever the lifestyle of this small village (then expanding into other villages) making it develop without losing the connection with its origins.

In fact, we have analysed the soil and noticed the good % acidity of the same which, linked to the high temperatures present throughout the year, can give great results with certain cultures.

In 2019 we did a test on a small plot of land planting chillies.

Having a good irrigation in the first months of growth of the plant and then reducing it once it bloomed we were able to produce a very good amount of fruits of excellent quality. And completely organic as no chemical fertilizer or pesticide has been used.

Our project is therefore to be able to make all the various fields in the area work with the production of chili peppers that once ready will be purchased by companies (always local) thus remunerating the landowners and finally improving their quality of life.

The chili market is a thriving market, with a lot of demand especially if of good quality.

In this way we will be able to guarantee 12 months of activity and therefore compensation to the families who own the land and to all the people who will be hired as aid.

The location is also convenient as you get the paved road and therefore for the transport of material and collected we will not have major problems.

We are looking for a first capital that allows us to:

STEP 1:

Creation of n° 10 freshwater wells, in strategic positions on the territory so that different plots and therefore families can be served

Creation of n° 20 large reservoirs for the storage of water caught from wells each with pressurized pump operating with solar energy and with connection to all the various fields and homes of residents

Mobile irrigation system (one for each field) with 100mt tube each

Creation of a large Nursery to reproduce crops avoiding the continuous purchase of seeds

Training of young residents to get closer to the world of agriculture and specialization thanks to the intervention of experts in the field

Purchase of 1 tractor and various tools dedicated to agriculture and direct work in the fields including clothing

First purchase of seeds

Purchase of 20 small solar power plants to be able to give electricity in the homes of the most disadvantaged families

Sign agreement with the top 20 families who own farmland where we guarantee no cost from them
