The Community Need
Hunger, poverty, homelessness, school failure, health disparities.
The economic, social and political challenges facing communities have become more complex over the last decade and non-profit organizations have struggled to meet increased need for services while adapting to shrinking government support and decreased private donations. Despite these difficulties, nonprofit human services organizations continue to play a vital role in our community by improving opportunities and providing access to educational, health, economic and cultural resources for vulnerable individuals and families helping them to meet their basic needs (food, clothing and shelter), achieve well-being and lead self-sufficient, self-determined, productive lives.
Why You Should Get Involved
Effective, creative, resilient nonprofit leadership is needed now more than ever. Yet, there is rarely funding available for the dedicated leaders of these organizations to receive critical professional support and development. As a result, nonprofit leaders are experiencing increased frustration, anxiety and fatigue. A 2011 Survey conducted by CompassPoint Nonprofit Services found that more than two-thirds of nonprofit executives plan to quit their jobs within the next five years. If the trend of leadership turnover continues, many organizations will miss the opportunity to develop new, innovative and cost-effective solutions to complex problems while individuals and communities in need will continue to suffer.
How You Can Help
I am requesting your support to fund a 3 day leadership retreat and one year of peer support for 12 non-profit leaders. I am often contacted by nonprofit organizations for help with leadership training, coaching and strategic planning. I provide services at little or no cost whenever possible, but I cannot respond to all the requests for free services. Your support will enable 12 leaders of small to mid-size non-profits to receive the training and support needed to transform their organizations through high performance and innovation and better meet the growing needs in the community.
$1200 will cover the cost for one leader to:
- Attend 3 day Leadership Retreat (including room, meals, all workshop books and supplies)
- Receive 4 hours of one-on-one coaching
- Attend a monthly facilitated peer support meeting (including lunch)
- Graduation reception
