Campaign Story
Mariano (Noi) Micu experienced a reddening, inflammation and change in skin color last March. It started on his feet. When he was sent to Philippine General Hospital and was diagnosed with Exfoliative Dermatitis.
Exfoliative dermatitis begins with extreme reddening, which spreads over large portions of the body. This change in skin color is known as erythroderma. Erythroderma and exfoliative dermatitis are both names for this condition. Massive peeling of the skin follows the reddening and inflammation. The skin is rough and scaly. The dryness and peeling of the skin cause itching and pain. It has flu-like symptoms with fever and chills. The widespread skin peeling can affect the internal thermometer that may cause heat loss from damaged skin. Also, with this condition he has a low blood volume. This is due to loss of fluid through the shed skin.
His skin is also shedding which started in small patches. Over time, it spreads to most of his body, majority in his chest up to the neck, arms to the palm and on his feel. Since the skin is made of mainly protein, it delivers nutrients to his other organs. Because of the constant shedding of his skin, this prevents his body from absorbing essential nutrients.
Severe symptoms of exfoliative dermatitis can be life-threatening.Those who develop complications of infection, fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, and cardiac failure are most at risk of death. The most common causes of death in patients with exfoliative dermatitis are pneumonia, septicemia, and heart failure.
The cause of this disease is still unknown.
Noi's condition is worsening up until now as he just went back to the hospital this month due to severe pain he has been experiencing. He was not on full hospital medication since his first check up last March because their family lacked money. Today, he is currently confined in UST hospital because he can no longer take the pain. Medicines and hospital bills are currently their biggest problem.
We are humbly reaching out to Noi's family, friends and anyone who might want to help our dear cousin-in-law to be treated continuously so that this illness may already be healed.
We will continuously update and monitor his situation from time to time.
Thank you in advance to everyone and God Bless you all.
