NINO

DEAR CINEMA LOVERS

My name is Walid Falleh, I am an independent Tunisian director. I studied architecture before I turned to art. I rather do music and direct films. I realized some films such as "BOZA" a documentary about the sub-Saharan migrants. The film was screened in many countries (Germany, France, Spain, Italy) and won the Prize of the best international production at the "Terra di Tutti Film Festival" in Bologna in 2015.

Today I am studying at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Germany.

2012, one year after the Tunisian revolution , I started writing a screenplay for a black comedy feature film. The script for this film is a heart project and took me a few years of work before it became ready.

Today, with the encouragement of my friends, I am launching this fundraising campaign so that I can realize the film.

The SCRIPT is completely ready, such as the shooting plan and the technical breakdown. The fundraising money I´ll use for the production that includes the payment of the actors, the equipment for filming, the payment of the film team, the rent of transport, the rent of locations, the decoration, the costumes and for all costs that arise during the filming.

SYNOPSIS

After 26 years in Italy, NINO, returns to Tunisia, his native country, to bury his mother who has just died the same day when the Tunisian revolution started. The mother of Italian origin confided to her neighbor a few days before her death that she converted to Islam and wanted to be buried in a Muslim cemetery. To fulfill his mother’s wish, NINO will find himself in an ironic situation in front of a group of people who refuse the funeral claiming that NINO’s mother is Catholic. Between the funeral mission and the chaos in the country because of the revolution, NINO will live satirical and unexpected adventures.

I started the idea for my screenplay a year after the beginning of the revolution. During that time I lived in neighborhood called “The small Sicily”, because it was the area inhabited by Italians who fled the world war. Most of them came from the Italian city “Sicily”. My main film character NINO and his mother are part of this Italian community who lived in this neighborhood. In this context, through the film I want to give an overview of the coexistence of this community in Tunisian society. in addition the coexistence between religions. At the same time I want to express my feeling during the time of the revolution.

Since February I am back in Tunisia. Actually I wanted to realize a documentary for my studies but due to the Covid crisis plans were cancelled and i didn´t get an authorization for filming. Now my plans changed and I hope to realize my script of "NINO" in October 2020 before coming back to Germany to finish my studies in Cologne.
