Campaign Story
Little Nikola was born prematurely in 29th week of pregnancy. He was reanimated several times, intubated and put into baby infant incubator for 4 months in general hospital Vojvodina, Serbia. He was released from hospital with many diagnoses. The most notable one is periventricular leukomalacia (PVL). He suffers from epilepsy and is also diagnosed with cerebral paralysis. With his fighting spirit, mom's love and lots of effort Nikola could barely sit at around 13th month. Shortly after that he suffered another blow. He got diagnosed with Dandy Walker syndrome. This is rare congenital brain malformation and is a result from premature birth. It is not a genetical issue.
Against all the odds Nikola is today a lively boy who can walk, run and loves his brother and sister. But he needs help. In May 2021 we went in Istanbul to Liv hospital where he recieved stem cells therapy and a better physiotherapy treatment. This treatment is meant for his mental progress. This is our hope and agony because he needs two more treatments. Grand total cost for this is 21000€ plus extra costs for accomodation and transport. Husband and I live in 31 square apartment with 3 kids and are financially not able to provide money for Nikola's treatment again. As a truck driver he doesn' earn that much and I am taking care of 3 kids alone.
So you are Nikola's only hope for a better childhood. This therapy has really helped him and improved his mental abilities so that one day he could be fully independent.
All our thanks, family Malić
