The second wave of Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on Nepal. The total coronavirus tally has crossed the 528,000 mark with a daily average of about 8219 infections and 137 deaths since May. The number of active Covid-19 cases across the country stands at about 117,261 with about 45% of positivity rate among the total PCR tests. With almost 50% of the total active cases in the capital city, Kathmandu, the health care system is completely saturated.

新型コロナの第2波はネパールに壊滅的な影響を与えています。感染者は累計52万人、5月からは1日当たり8219人の感染者と137人の死者を記録しています。現時点の感染者数は合計11万7261人となっており、陽性率は約45%です。約50%の陽性率を記録している首都カトマンドゥでは医療体制は完全に飽和状態となっています。

Despite the lockdown, the mortality rate is increasing at a rapid pace as the underserved patients are dying due to lack of oxygen canisters, medical supplies, ventilators and ICU beds. Nepal is highly dependent on India for its medical imports but as major medical supplies like oxygen canisters, anti-infection medicines and vaccines are being prioritized to be used by India to fight the Covid surge within its country, Nepal has had to seek International assistance to support its crippling health care system. With fewer than 634 ventilators and 1446 ICU beds for a country of 30 million people, Nepal is amidst a humanitarian crisis.

その為、ロックダウン下にもかかわらず、酸素ボンベ, 医療用品, 人工呼吸器、ICUの不足により十分な治療を受けられない患者が増え、死亡率は急速に増加しています。またネパールは医療品の多くをインドから輸入していますが、酸素ボンベ、抗感染薬、ワクチンのような医療品は同じく深刻なコロナ禍の中にあるインドでの使用を優先しています。その為、脆弱な医療体制となっているネパールは国際的な支援を必要としています。3000万人の人口に対して634個の人工呼吸器と1446室のICUしか持たないネパールはこれまでにない危機に面しています。

As the health system is getting overwhelmed and the mortality rate is increasing by the day, the Nepalese have been feeling powerless and frustrated. Confined within our homes due to the lockdown, we Nepalese back home have been able to do very little except contribute financially to organizations that have been working tirelessly on the grounds, conducting various Covid-relief activities. Similarly, our friends and family in Japan have also been feeling distressed, and despite their want to help, have expressed the difficulty in identifying reliable initiatives to contribute to. Thus, through Nihon For Nepal, an initiative led by Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) Alumni from Nepal, we aim to build a bridge between Japan and Nepal to raise funds to help Nepal fight the second-wave of Covid-19. Our goal is to collect 1,000,000 Yen and donate the proceeds from the fundraiser to reliable and authentic organizations.

このような壊滅的医療体制や死亡率の上昇を前に、ネパール国民は無力感と苛立ちに包まれています。ロックダウンの状況下では私たちのようにネパールに戻って生活している人間にできることはとても少ないですが、コロナに立ち向かう活動を精力的に行っている団体・組織への寄付を行うことができると考えています。加えて、私たちだけではなく、日本に暮らす家族や友人も同じようにやるせない気持ちを抱え、寄付や支援を希望しているものの信頼できる寄付・支援先を見つけることが難しいという声を聞いています。

そこで私たちはNihon for Nepal by APU Alumni (Nepal)を立ち上げ、コロナ第2波と闘うネパールを全力で支援し、日本とネパールの架け橋になります。

Feed The Hungry Nepal - Distributes rations to those stranded by the pandemic. Delivers food and medical supplies across the valley by mobilizing volunteers from different districts.

様々な地域から動員されるボランティアによりパンデミックにより困窮している人々への食糧や医療品の配給を行います。

Creasion Nepal - Oxygen For Nepal is a civil society-led initiative of CREASION & COVID Alliance for Nepal which focuses on fund collection, procurement and effective distribution of life-saving oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, immediate setup of oxygen plants and fully equipped isolation centers.

「CREASION & COVID」という資金回収や調達、酸素シリンダー、酸素濃縮器、酸素製造機、充実したアイソレーション(隔離)センターの効果的な提供を主導している市民団体です。
