Hello everyone! My name is Nicole, I'm 18 years old and I am a Biochemistry student in University of Madeira, a beautiful Portuguese island, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in the Portuguese Biology Olympiads and after a lot of work and effort, I won the competition, from the thousands of participant students. Winning this competition gave me the opportunity to represent Portugal in a worldwide famous contest, International Biology Olympiads (IBO), that took place in Vietnam. This experience allowed me to expand my horizons, since I could get to know people from all around the world with the same interests as me and become friends with many of them. After that I came back to Portugal, with the desire of having a similar experience once again, because it was really enriching.
Almost a year later, I discovered this amazing event, London International Young Science Forum, where the participants can attend many different lectures and demonstrations from leading scientists, but also visit leading UK research centers and universities, including Oxford and Cambridge Universities. They also have the opportunity of living together as an international community, for two weeks, exchanging ideas and experiences. I truly consider this a once in a life time opportunity for a young scientist like myself, considering my desire of becoming a scientific researcher in the future.
The biggest problem about a LITSF participation are the extremely high fees that need to be paid in order to be part of this magnificent program. This is why I'm starting this campaign and I'm deeply thankful to anyone that decides to help me, a girl from a small country town, make this dream come true.
Thank you all for the attention and help! :)
