Campaign Story
Hello everyone,
Thank you for taking time to read this!
This fundraiser is set up to help a dear friend of mine, Josefin and her adorable dog, Nicki.
Nicki is Josefin's everything, and she was devastated when Nicki got injured in the woods of Sunday November 8th. They were out with Josefin's dad and we don't exactly know what happened, but Josefin's dad found Nicki injured under a tree while they were searching for her.
For any animal lover, I'm sure you can imagine the pain Josefin was in seeing her best friend in excruciating pain.
Josefin took Nicki to the vet as she was distressed and seemed in pain. The veterinarians decided to keep Nicki over night as they discovered she'd had a punch to her chest, having the air from her lungs pushed into her body. Not being able to get rid of this naturally, they needed to put Nicki on a drain to help her body recover. The veterinarians gave Josefin hopes that Nicki would be fine, but as it turns out Nicki's life would be changed from that day forward.
A very traumatic few days would follow, as the vet called Josefin the following day explaining Nicki had gotten worse overnight. She had bruises, they'd also discovered two of her vertebra's had been dislocated.
Josefin decided to take Nicki to a specialist two hours away, as there was still hope for Nicki to fully recover. The specialist was hopeful that no surgery would be needed, just keep Nicki still and make sure she gets plenty of rest. Nicki was left at the animal hospital over night.
The following day, Tuesday, Nicki had become paralyzed in her hind legs. The news devastated Josefin and she was in agony the whole drive to the animal hospital. When Josefin arrived, she was still able to wag her tail. An orthopedic specialist said they could operate but it would be expensive and complications could occur, other option would have been to put Nicki down since she was in pain.
Choosing the operation would not only be expensive, there was also only a 25% chance for the operation to successfully get Nicki the feeling in her hind legs back, and after this a further 90% chance for her to fully recover.
Josefin got Nicki during a rough patch in her life, and they have been each others rock ever since. Josefin was not ready to say goodbye despite the changes of her fully recovering being slim - she decided to go through with the surgery.
The operation went well and currently Nicki is recovering. Recovery will be a long winded journey for these two friends, that include aqua sessions and physiotherapy for Nicki.
The first positive update we got was last Thursday (Nov 12th), when Josefin informed us that Nicki had peed for the first time since the surgery. This might sound silly, but the vet basically said this was a postive sign that Nicki would fully recover.
Josefin keeps us updated of her progress via instagram and twitter. The last week have taken a toll on Josefin and that's why I want to try help her with this fundraiser. You can follow her updates via the links below!
