Due to a lack of support and education around disability awareness in Kenya, many disabled children and adults are hidden from public view by their families. The Kenyan culture is built largely around family values and beliefs, and it is expected that children should be able to contribute while at home and ultimately provide for themselves when they reach adulthood.

However, there are large numbers of children born with disabilities, who don’t have access to support and can’t provide for themselves. There are also many Kenyans who become disabled through the course of their lives.

I will work with people who are disabled, providing hands-on support and disability education among families and local communities in Kenya. I will be assisting with physiotherapy and rehabilitation, teaching, general supervision, and interacting/providing training for the family and their community. I'll also help at meal times, preparing and serving meals, and cleaning up afterwards.

For those of you who know me an aspiring pediatric neurologist, you know this is right up my alley! The trip of a lifetime, if you ask me!
