The New York Diabetes Association (NYDA) helps New Yorkers with diabetes detect their condition, prevent onset and complications, and learn to live well with the challenge of diabetes. NYDA's primary purpose is to decrease diabetes-related death and disability in New York. The New York Diabetes Association provides services to all persons regardless of their ability to pay. The New York Diabetes Association also offers Camp Hamwi, a summer camp experience for youth with diabetes. In addition to enjoying traditional camp challenges, campers at Hamwi participate in activities designed to improve their knowledge of their own diabetes. Camp Hamwi encourages independence in diabetes management while providing medical staff to help with education and assistance where needed.
