New Year’s Resolution – Help us help them

Exactly a year ago my family and I went to Sri Lanka. We volunteered under TECH Outreach where we taught and interacted with the youths and children, met all the beneficiaries and their families and saw all they had done growing acres of crops and building their business since having their Wells. Our beneficiaries were the lovely woman and children who've unfortunately been displaced for years / decades due to the war.

Often, the portrayal of mainstream media makes their stories seem so distant, but having met, interacted and befriended these survivors, I know these stories are not just stories, but someone else’s actual lives. From being separated from their family and yet not able to be reunited yet; to losing mothers, daughters, sons and fathers; to losing your home land and starting over with absolutely nothing, not even water to drink nor roofs over their heads.

This is where TECH began. They organised small interest free loans for these women to commence a small business, gave them toilets, water pumps, water filters, tuition fees for their children and grains for cultivation. In 2016, TECH came out with a 1000 Well Transfomation Plan to transform the lives of these women headed households to women farmers. We have manage to kickstart by building 57 Wells thus far and currently have funding for another 6 Wells scheduled to build in April 2019.

This year, I am fundraising for TECH Outreach, an NGO which believes that families shouldn't have to walk miles for hours just to get some water, basic necessities the rest of us are privileged with, an NGO which believes children living in extreme poverty can build a brighter, more sustainable future when they have access to quality education and healthcare. With your support, we can make a difference, one child at a time, one family at a time.
