Hi I'm Jeff - owner of Craftsman House Gallery.Craftsman House is an historic Arts & Crafts bungalow, built in 1918 as the model home for St, Petersburg, Florida's Historic Kenwood neighborhood.17 years ago I purchased the neglected property located in a run down area and fully renovated it, turning an unused property into an award-winning art gallery, cafe, working pottery studio, musical listening room, and community meeting space.Since then it has anchored the west end of the business district sparking further renovation.Today as more and more old buildings are being torn down and new development comes in, it is important to preserve our unique treasures. Over the years I have been active in keeping St. Pete Special through promoting the arts and historic preservation - areas that have been catalysts to the city's renaissance.

This fund is looking to raise approximately half the cost of the new roof/ceiling for both the main house and the carriage house. This is not a typical roofing job.As with my previous restoration, I want to restore the roof's structural integrity, which will bring it back to its original charm. The previous owner installed unpermitted, weak band-aids on areas in need of repair. This substandard work has added to the current repairs and cost.To do the job right, and preserve the building for generations to come, the eaves, bead-board, gutters, and rafters need to be rebuilt or replaced. With over 175 rafters, the cost of the carpentry work alone will double the cost of the roofing job.

This has created a huge financial burden and the longer we wait to replace, the more the roof deteriorates.

Craftsman House has never engaged in fundraising activities, supporting itself through the sales and promotion of artwork and the cafe.We are at the point where our roof has to be replaced. We are reaching out to our friends, supporters, and preservationists because of the unique costs associated with undoing well-intended, but improper repairs over the home's century in St. Pete and bringing the roof back to the condition in which it was built.

Here are some reasons you might want to donate:

  • This special building is on the historic registry, adding to the unique (and disappearing)character of our city.
  • Fixing the roof will improve both the business and the neighborhood, sparking additional improvements in the district.
  • It is one of the surviving locally owned, independent businesses in St. Pete's downtown Central Avenue corridor.
  • It will continue to provide a sound environment for the handmade artwork in the gallery.
  • Once again you will be able to take pleasure in a cool drink on the front porch.
  • You have enjoyed a national musician in an intimate setting at Craftsman House.
  • Your group has held meetings at Craftsman House at no charge.
  • You had your wedding/engagement party/baby shower/fundraiser at Craftsman House.
  • Craftsman House previously donated to your cause.
  • We have already had numerous e mails, texts, and messages from people asking how to help.So here it is!
