While this has taken longer than anticipated, due to Covid, funding and finding the right property with a proper title deed (not common in low income bracket houses in SA), we are currently in the process of putting an offer to purchase on a property. If this goes through, photos will be uploaded once it is in Gloria's name.

Gloria is currently living in one room with her two daughters, one of whom gave birth to twin boys 3 weeks ago. Helping them purchase a property will enable them to break the cycle of poverty and give them hope.

Hello, my name is Liz Nicolosi and I employ a wonderful person, Gloria, as my housekeeper. She is intelligent, humble, a hard worker and is always calm even though her life has been a struggle. She has two dependent daughters and an older, unemployed daughter who has three children herself. She lived in an informal settlement, with no running water nor electricity until a few months ago (see photo 1). Her family was threatened and Gloria fled the settlement to protect her daughters. She is currently staying with her eldest daughter but this is not a long term solution. Gloria desperately needs a home, a place she can call her own and one that she can keep for her future no matter what happens.

The cycle of poverty within families, especially female only ones, not only exists in South Africa, but around the world. It seems an impossible task to break this cycle, and that is why even small amounts of help can go a long way towards this.

What can YOU do to break this cycle? Please donate to this cause and let us help Gloria and her family have a place of their own that they can call home, something that most of us take for granted. Let us give Gloria hope that her daughters will be better placed now to follow their dreams in the future.

Depending on funds raised we have 3 stages.

Stage 1

• purchase of plot of land in Clermont Ext 8, Pinetown: Maximum R100 000 (Euro 5 500)

Stage 2

• construction of approximately 40sq m 2 bedroom house (using Klevabricks (see attached plans and costs), converted shipping containers or wooden structure): R200 000 (Euro 11 000)
• All municipal water and electricity connections: R10 000 (Euro 550)

Stage 3

• Furniture and furnishings to get started: R40 000 (Euro 2 000)
