I am running the New Forest Half Marathon on 9th September to raise money for the Karenni National Women's Organisation (KNWO). I spent 2 months this year living with the KNWO team in Myanmar early this year, helping them in their incredible work to protect, educate and empower women in the Karenni State and those still living in refugee camps on the Thai/Burma border. KNWO's is very much underfunded - but organisation's like this need to exist and be supported if there is to be any genuine peace in Myanmar, a country where people are still paying the price for decades of civil war.
It's safe to say I am not LOVING the training - running hurts and the idea of running for 2+ hours straight is making me scared... 1 month to go, 7 miles more to master... need all the motivation I can get!
BUT! So worth it if we are able to raise some funds that will genuinely help to transform women's lives. Thanks so much, Jessie xoxoxox
KNWO run a safe-house in Loikaw for women survivors of domestic violence, providing a safe space for them and their children to live for 3+ months. They provide training on women's rights and political leadership to women in 6 townships across the state, empowering them to use their voice to influence decision-making in their communities and beyond. KNWO staff work tirelessly to influence decision-makers at a national level to ensure that the needs of women and children are considered in Myanmar's peace-building process, so that there is meaningful and sustainable peace for everyone, not just the powerful. About the donation
As with many small NGOs in Myanmar, KNWO cannot be registered with online fundraising platforms (JustGiving etc). They aren't able to register as a charity due to the security risk and the fact that the Thai authorities do not formally recognise their beneficiaries as refugees. I will transfer the final donation via transferwise directly to KNWO.
