Despite the rain, hard wind and more rain Children's day was a total success and the most important thing the kids had a wonderful time. The program lasted almost 2 hrs, all the children started by signing the Nepalese national anthem and their school song

The Nursery class (little ones) sang and danced in English and Nepalese.

Later on LKG (kids between 3/4 years old) also danced and sang both in English and Nepalese (seriously bravo to the dance and music teacher for the choreography) and as a finale they did a mini-speech about veggies, fruits and anima l, this was my favourite part cause they did it individually and though some of them were super nervous the did not forget their lines and some actually did a bit of performance of their subject (see below 😻)

And well principal of the school asked me to do a speech about my experience so far at the school...to make this long story short, I couldn't stop thanking the parents, school members and especially the kids for giving me the opportunity to be here, honestly it's me the one learning the most!

So have a look at those face...aren't they the cutest?

Another festival is just around the corner which is "Children's day" so we are in the last round with all the decorations, rehersals, snacks, etc.

For this occasion, the kids will be performing some singing, dancing and recitals(mini) this last one about vegetables, flowers and/or animals therefore I've been working with the kids to memorize their lines and I've created a mini sign with the subject they've been assigned to talk about.

As part of the decorations and because is Children's day, I drew faces of children from different parts of the world, I did it like this cause I want to let them know that despite looking different (tall/short, curly/straight hair, dark/light skin, skirt/pants, etc.) at the end, they are all Children!

Hartalika Teej (or Teej) is the fasting festival of girls & women in Nepal 👭 It usually takes place in Nepali Bhadra month (August to September in Solar Calendar) and lasts for three days and it's celebrated with songs, dancing and prayer rituals. Unmarried girls look forward to a good marriage in the future, and married women pray for the long and healthy life of their husbands.

On August 31st at "Bal Balika" Montessori & Pre-School I had the opportunity to celebrate such a beautiful tradition surrounded by strong & hardworking women together with their beautiful children 🥰❤👭👧💃😍

P.S. fasting is a choice, so those who know me...well you know what food means to me 🤣🤣🤣

From Sunday to Friday at 9:15 am, this is the path I take to "Bal Balika" Montessori & pre-school where I am currently volunteering. The first 2 days I had someone who showed me the way to get there, although I have to admit that on the third day I was very afraid of getting lost, but I did it! It can be a 10-minute walk, but it is complicated, full of streets, alleys and ups and downs (I still get tired when going up 🤣🤣🤣), but once I arrive and see the faces of the children, all struggles disappear 🧒❤🧡💛💚💙💜🖤👧

Hi guys!

I'm sorry, I didn't write before, but since I set one foot in Nepal, I immediately felt that it was going to be a completely different experience unlike the ones I've had before.

At this moment I am about to have breakfast with the rest of the volunteers (5 in total) and 10 minutes later (walking) I will be at "Bal Balika daycare" ... I am running a little late, so I will leave you a picture so you can see how easy you can fall in love with Nepal and its people ... especially children🥰🥰🥰

Take care!

Karla (Maili...this is the name I've been given by my Nepalese mom)

I am glad to inform you that 3rd blanket it's finished, washed and ready to travel!

By now I should be able to say "everything is packed" but the truth is that I still need to put "everything" in the backpack, but the good thing is that at least I have everything already organised in the packing cubes, which I do have to say after reading lots of websites, bloggers, travellers experiences I've decided to give it a try...let's see how it goes!

Today I will buy the yummy gifts....cheese and stroopwafel, well actually I need to buy MORE stroopwafel because yesterday that I went to the Albert Heijn (store) and I took the last 3 left in the store....no enough!

🥰 We have another blanket for Nepal 🥰

I am really happy to inform you that just a few minutes ago, a second blanket has been completed and is ready to travel and be part of a family in Nepal. Again, thank you for your amazing support!

Still don't know if I should start making (crochet) another blanket since there is not enough time (exactly we are 7 days and 23 hours), but on the other hand, doing this helps me getting less nervous and to focus on enjoying every single moment of this adventure, which right now is packing....wish me luck!

Keep you posted if 3rd blanket is in the process to become real.

Well, the day arrived to have the second rabies vaccine...The doctor (different than last time) was amazing, super sweet and I almost didn't feel the shot, so after the shot I continued through the day doing my things but it was around the evening that I start feeling a bit weird (more than I am), body and headache, lack of energy and a bit of dizziness, so I decided to go to bed and try to forget the pain, but during my sleep I woke up twice! Mainly cause of the headache, it took me a while but I finally fell asleep.

This morning, still with the symptoms (not as strong as yesterday) I decided to ask my friend Google of possible vaccination's side effect and here is what I found:

  • injection site reactions (pain, swelling, itching, or redness),
  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • muscle pain,
  • nausea, or
  • stomach pain.

So it seems that I am having the side effects of the vaccination but ehhh as long as I can keep on my crochet and playing Guitar Hero (special thanks to my rocks idols Heleniqua & Nico "Pancho") I WILL BE OK!

So let's keep on rocking 🎸🎸🎸

Last night, just a few hours before midnight I started (crochet) another blanket for Nepal. Why? Love to do it! It makes me so happy to think that a piece of me is in that blanket, it is my way of saying "I'm here for you, I care for you". If I do something for someone and at the same time I am doing something I love, why not do it, right? Although I'm running out, I hope to make it on time.
