It all began on a road trip last winter. I found myself driving through Japan from Okinawa on a photo tour, that ended in the ski resort mecca of Hakuba Valley. I am a surfer, the ocean has always been my home, my church, my sanctuary, but after spending just a few days on the powder...I haven’t been able to shake the bug...I just have to ride those mountains again.
I turn 40 next year and so have decided to take 3months over this coming winter to learn to ride, from a beginner to as far as I can go on a snowboard...And just for fun, why not film it all.
In my professional life I run a small media company www.bluepacificmedia.com .
I first began photography back in 1995, my focus was on creating moody portraits using lighting. My study focus at that point in film production, but also in the darkroom shooting stills to accompany various productions I was involved in, from posters to cast profiles. Now, nearly two decades later I find myself still enjoying the process, though with the luxury of the digital age, and the limitless possibilities it presents.
My plan is to shoot a reality style documentary about not only learning to snowboard, but also finding that new spark that comes from adventure. The drive behind this video is to challenge people to follow their dreams, but also to dream as big as they can.
