Help Nerilyn Kick Cancer The Second Time Around

Nerilyn dela Cruz, a loving mom to two beautiful girls Monique and Natalia, and a supportive partner to Joven, is battling Stage 4 Metastatic Pulmonary Cancer. This fundraiser is to help offset her cancer treatment costs.

After having successfully beaten breast cancer last year, in March 2021, Nerilyn’s routine check-up showed tiny nodules on both of her lungs. PET Scan results confirmed the spread of cancer cells to both lungs. The good side: these are highly treatable.

She has to undergo 6 cycles of chemotherapy every 3 weeks (P91,305.91 or USD 1,826.12 per cycle) to prevent further spread and complications. She will also have to undergo PET Scan to check her response to the treatment.

Last April 27, 2021, Nerilyn started her first cycle of Chemotherapy. Here is the breakdown:

• Chemo Drug: Paclitaxel Paxus PM - Php 12,500 per vial x 4 (number of vials needed per chemo cycle) = Php 50,000 or USD 1,000
• Chemo Drug: Carboplatin Biovinate = Php 10,396.50 or USD 207.93
• Neocyte = P5,000 or USD 100
• Supplies, Infusion Pump Use, Hospital, and other Fees = Php 8,809.41 or USD 176.19
• Professional Fee = Php 17,100 or USD 342

TOTAL AMOUNT NEEDED FOR THE REMAINING 5 CHEMO CYCLES: Php 456,529.55 or USD 9,130.591

But while Nerilyn and her family are pooling resources to help finance the treatment, the bills are just too hard for them to handle given that they haven’t completely recovered from her breast cancer treatment last year.

Stage 3B Breast Cancer Background:

Nerilyn was diagnosed with Triple Negative Stage 3B Breast Cancer in December 2019-- it is an aggressive type of cancer that can spread really fast and has limited treatment options.

She had to undergo Total Mastectomy of the right breast in January 2020. A 3cm mass was removed together with her lymph nodes-- 6/22 lymph nodes positive for cancer. She started Chemotherapy in March 2020 and finished 8 cycles in August 2020. She was also required to do Radiation Therapy from October to December 2020.

Given that Triple Negative Breast Cancer is highly aggressive, she has been under strict monitoring every 3 months, leading to discovery of the lung nodules.

Nerilyn and her family is thanking God and everyone who helped them win her battle against Breast Cancer. It was indeed a roller coaster ride for them. It was physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially draining. It sure did cost them a fortune, but they are thankful for beating breast cancer last year.
