Almost there! 3 years later, we are close to getting our house rebuilt after Earthquake in Nepal

Dear Friends,

As most of you know, when our house was destroyed in the earthquake we failed to raise enough funds to rebuild it. We did, however, start a savings account with the amount raised. And now, 3 years later, with help of family, friends and a lot of work, we are closer than ever to rebuilding the house! Construction already started! Anything you can give will help a lot. More materials need to be acquired and suppliers need to be paid. No amount is a small amount!

Letter from my first campaign (2016-2017)

My name is Sapanam Simkhada.

I have created this website to try to ask for help to rebuild a shelter for my two children and family and make it possible for me to reunite with them; I have not seen my two children in more than 15 months now. Any help can change our lives. Please, if you can, help us.

My family house was destructed by the earthquake in Nepal on Saturday, 25 of April of 2015. It was in a village around 15km from Kathmandu. Since then my two children, my mother and my wife have been without a proper home, living in difficulty and counting only with the favor of other people and family members.

I was already living in Qatar when the earthquake happened, the only place where I could find a job to provide some financial support to them. I have not seen my children and family in more than 15 months. If we can build a shelter to my family it will make it possible for me to go back to Nepal and knowing that they have a place to be I will be able to start working as a guide in trekking season again. All I want is to be close to my children and know that they are safe.

Nepal received some help from abroad when the earthquake happened but very little support reached the villages and the needs are still urgent and immense.

Since the destruction of the house my family has tried to figure out how to rebuild our home, how to reach for help and financial support but very little is available. My family has worked to clear the site where the house was and make a new site ready to construct a new home.

I am working with my cousin Tekendra Malla who lives in Kathmandu and will be overseeing the construction of the new home if we can get the funding for it. He has researched several different types of homes and we have agreed that the new home should be a very simple one and inexpensive but safe and resistant to other earthquakes. There are companies in Nepal today offering cheap pre-fabricated structures. I have posted here pictures of the designs that are available and that Tekendra has already discussed with the engineers.

We are now ready to start construction and need all the financial help we can get. Please, if you can, help us. I do not have anything to offer other than my most sincere prayers and thank you. I reach out because I do not know what else to do and am desperate to be reunited with my children and family.
