After the devastating earthquake in Kathmandu on Saturday 25 April, my aim with this fundraiser is to directly help and assist a small village to rebuild its water supply and small school.
As many of you know I have visited Nepal many times and hence have many friends and their families whose lives have been devastated by the earthquake. Despite a lot of money and help being sent from around the world, the needs of remote villages are still urgent and immense.
I am working with my good friend Om Shahi on a long-term restoration project to help his village, Taruka Budhaisingh, build water tanks, purchase water supply pipes and build two new rooms for the school, which were destroyed in the earthquake. The goal is raise funds to help the village.
This is Om’s own account of the situation in Takruka Budhaisingh:
“Taruka budhasingh is a village 70 km north west of Kathmandu. It takes about three and half hour by motorbike. There are good roads for 55 km, but the last 15 km are dirt road without any asphalt or gravel. In our small village we have about 100 houses with mixed tribes such as Thakuri, Braman, Tamang and Cheetris. In this village we have only one primary school, with 125 students, which is now completely destroyed. The next school is about one and half hour walk from our village.
The water supply was bought from one and half km from the village, but since the earthquake hit, water supplies are closed. Luckily nobody died, but most of the houses are finished. People are living in open ground in tents or their own temporary shelter. Nuwakot is one of the districts badly hit by this quake. There is no help from government and people are still waiting. My main goal is to fix this water supply as early possible and to rebuild this school as early possible.”
I am urging you all to help me raise funds to help Om and his struggling village. Please help if you can and please share this with anyone who can help. Thank you.
