I have decided to participate in a 2-week programme to teach English to young Buddhist Monks in Nepal mid-September 2018.

I would like to try and give back what I had the chance to receive - a good scholar education with a solid English knowledge. We live in a world where no one starts life with the same advantages as each other and I would like to participate in making a change.

I have been dreaming about this project for a while now and I hope you can help me make this happen in 2018!

"Many young Nepalese men spend a period of their life training as a monk. The majority of the children at the monasteries are Tibetan refugees and impoverished children from ethnic hill tribes. Becoming a monk offers many children the chance of a better life.

Training to become a monk starts at an early age. Young monks are taught about Buddhist practises and philosophies as well as receiving general mainstream education – including learning English. The ability to speak English allows monks to translate religious text and communicate the teachings of Buddhism to all. As the Dalai Lama said, “To learn English is to spread the word”.

It is very important that monks receive a formal education as well as religious training. It is not totally uncommon for monks to leave the monastery when they get older, therefore it is important for them to learn English in order to boost their career prospects in mainstream society."

Between the volunteering, insurance, TEFL course and admin fees, the total price to participate is of almost £600, that is without counting the background check and return flights - as a young worker, I don't have sufficient money to cover the total cost, which is why I need your help.

Thank you for those who will help make this life project come true!
