Nepal Village Earthquake Relief

HELP A REMOTE, EARTHQUAKE-SHATTERED NEPALESE VILLAGE BUILD TEMPORARY SHELTERS FOR THE COMING MONSOON

In the past several weeks, Nepal has experienced two devastating earthquakes and many hundreds of aftershocks. Worldwide public response to this crisis has been exemplary, but there are many remote villages which have not yet received any international aid and very little, if any, government aid. I am starting this campaign to raise money for one such village, Bhurtung Khadgakot, in Gulmi-1 district. In Khadgakot, more than 300 houses have been leveled or significantly damaged. Because of the remoteness of this village, it has thus far been off of the international radar, and the DC Nepal newspaper reports that it is also still awaiting a government response. Although a great deal more money is needed to rebuild the village, I am working with my brother-in-law (who grew up in the Gulmi district) to raise $2500 to meet an immediate need: the construction of temporary, metal-roofed shelters for the affected families of Khadgakot. The monsoon season is near and the people of this village desperately need protection from the elements during this time. Additional moneys raised will be used for rebuilding the village homes, school, and other buildings.
