We have a moral obligation to help others, just as we have a moral obligation not to harm. Our subjective experiences amount to an indescribable sense of place and standing in the world, but we are just a small pulse in the span of time. What binds us then? Our response to crisis relies on empathy. Empathy weaves together a universal language, one that speaks to the innate connectivity we have with each other. Our shared course allows us to see the world as broader than the space we occupy while empathy harvests action.  Recently my attention has been geared towards Nepal, a country severely impoverished. This summer I will be traveling to Kathmandu for a non-profit journalism internship. I will be joining other volunteers as we learn and stage awareness on the current issues facing the Nepalese people. One of my foremost reporting interests includes preserving the distinct language and culture of Nepalese tribes. Inspired by the initiatives of the World Oral Literature Project and the seminal research and documentation of socio-cultural anthropologists, I will create a short film that contributes to the archive of endangered languages and cultures.

Sustainability is at the heart of my endeavors. This trip is apart of my exploration into ethical decision making which facilitates a surplus of culture, agriculture, and organic living. Pathos and ethos are embedded deep within my moral, ethical, and critical  capacity to think with global sensibilities. There's an exigency in cultural conservation. While I'm in Nepal this summer I hope to create a short film that captures the mythology, legends, and oral traditions which enliven a unique cultural heritage. My passion for activism assures my aspirations with possibility. I attend the University of San Francisco but financial aid does not apply to the summer semester and my income alone does not permit the cost of my trip. My financial needs include: airfare, program fees, equipment, visas, and insurance. I'm convinced we hold closer ties to each other than what race, borders, and religion contend. An urge within me, commanding an awareness, leads me to Nepal. We are each motivated by our personal missions but we are our ties are fortified to one another. Awareness, sustainability, and activism are at the core of my mission; vital pillars to maintaining cultural identity.
