Menstrual hygiene management education

Needbe Foundation is an NGO registered in Ghana and runs educational and health programs in rural and deprived parts in Ghana operating since 2015. Registration number GC082602017 (company limited by guarantee)

We have a special project designed called HAPPY PERIOD, HAPPY SCHOOL (every woman's issue is everyone's issue) where we educate and sensitise girls from about age about 12 - 23 in the primary to the Secondary schools. We have had 5 workshops since we started last year August and we have imparted over 1600 girls and have distributed 50 reusable cloth pads (washable) to some impoverished girls who are struggling with buying pads every cycle - period poverty. We have designs a concrete tool ( resources every one can use to educate girls) we use to train girls from school to school coupled with videos and PowerPoint presentation slides activities at places we can use a projector.

Our main goal for this is to achieve gender equity, gender equality and empower girls to get higher education( quality education- SDG 4).

Our objective is to

1. See every girl feel happy about Menstruation.

2. Save many girls from period poverty

3. Assist impoverished girls get sanitary pads that are sustainable for a while.

4. Correct every myth, superstition and stereotypes about period.

We want to acquire tool kits which will have all the pamphlet, pictures, markers, projector and a screen, a power cable and all other materials that fellows/members and volunteers can use to run workshops in other parts of Ghana. We want to expand and build capacity to reach many girls as possible as we can. We want to build a team of volunteers from localities to go to villages, towns and schools to keep educating girls and even teach parents about this honorable and natural phenomenon.

Future prospects

We will be building a space where we can train women to make the cloth pads and send them to visit nearby villages and towns to create the awareness and sensitisation to girls and women who lack access to Period information and better material to collect their period blood.
