Why not me? That is the question George Clark asked himself after being laid off from his North Dakota oil job, as he looked down at a nest of baby squirrels that had just come down in a tree. Unlike so many of us that ask “why me” George knew the innocent lives of these helpless babies was on him and him alone to save, and so he did.

His body was broken down from difficult years on an oil drilling rig. He dealt with the bulging disks, the bad knees, the pain and the discomfort that laborers know they will endure as the years move on. What he didn’t expect was for him, along with all of his friends and coworkers to be suddenly laid off with no income, no insurance and with no explanation other than, “the economy changed”.

The father of 4 thriving children and husband of 27 years, George looked for work nonstop but, as any good man would, he also used the time he had to work around his home and do the things he never had time to do before. When a tree went down, he went outside to handle it, only to hear faint sounds coming from branches. There he found a nest of baby squirrels. It was the day that changed his life, once again. With no background and no knowledge, George and his family took on the furry family and nursed them to health, and then saw them released to the trees where they and their offspring continue to visit him daily. George was hooked.

There was no paid work, no oil jobs, no assistance for those used and discarded by industry, but he could do this. He could help animals in need. That day, and every day since, George has dedicated his life to helping those with no voice. Dozens, then tens of dozens of animals found in George help when there was no one else.

On, June 14, 2018 bad went to far worse. George woke up with a baseball sized protrusion in his belly that hurt when he walked, spoke, sat, laid down, breathed. There was no option but to seek help. After visiting the doctor George was delivered the news, the bulge was an Inguinal hernia. Inguinal hernias are not only notoriously painful, but can lead to life-threatening conditions including intestinal blockage requiring emergency surgery. That combined with the two ruptured disk in his neck that were pinching the nerves that control his left arm causing limited use of it.

It is now that George, who has helped so many voiceless animals, needs help. Still without insurance, George’s surgeries will be nearly $100,000. Without health insurance, (which he cancelled so he wasn’t a burden to his family) George must pay the entirety of this bill up front or doctors will not perform the surgeries. No matter how small, every dollar brings George closer to these surgeries, and closer to the health he needs to continue rehabilitating our precious wildlife. Thank you for your help…from George, Karen, and all of his furry family.

Are there any more Angels out there??

Update posted by George Clark at 07:01 pm

Hello everyone here's the latest news.... I had to miss my first appointment with the surgery Clinic on July 5th because I didn't have the money to go. Out of the blue an Angel appeared by the name of Amanda Mitchell who read my story and was gracious enough to. . . . .
