Need ASL Interpreter Training Funding

After more than 15 years of trying to teach Math to high school students, I’ve discovered, after joining Teachers Without Borders, a different unmet need. A large portion of the population of the western United States is deaf or Hard-of-Hearing. There’s a shortage of ASL-fluent interpreter-quality teachers and I’d like to become ASL-interpreter fluent. So I applied to Gallaudet University, which has the best program in ASL Interpretation but naturally there’s almost no financial aid through Gallaudet since I’m not deaf. Do I need to reiterate that there’s a severe shortage of ASL-interpreter fluent people out here, to interpret for the DEAF....???
