The value and power of education is something that I thought the most important thing since a very young age. My mother, as a single-parent, never had an opportunity to attend high school because she had lost her parents at a young age. She had also faced financial hardships and many struggles in her personal life. When my father died in 1985, everything fell apart and the dreams of building a complete family together with hopes and aspirations have gone with the wind. My family’s predicaments have encouraged me early in my life to study harder and have instilled in me a love of learning and fathoming of the value of hard work and determination even though the money has always been tight. I also worked different jobs as a way of contributing to my school needs and to my family’s budget. I have become the first person in my family to attend high school, college, and graduate school. The life skills and strong values that my mother have instilled in me have helped me to pursue and to accomplish my personal goals. I will continue to do my best to realize what has been a long-term goal for me and a dream for my parents. Some of the reasons why I wanted to pursue my Ph.D abroad are more personal. I am a person who seek new challenges; and aspire to discover and learn new things. I like to take big steps,to step out of my comfort zones and to create new experiences. I am really an independent person and very motivated to accomplish my personal goals as well as my professional goals.
