" Hi everyone, my name is Naufal Afandi. I am diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa; an incurable cellular disease of the retina that has plagued me since I was an infant. It also causes me to experience a gradual decline in my vision over time. I turn 20 this year and I've tried everything that Singapore has offered within my financial means.

After my O levels, I went for an A Level course so as to have a continuity of the same kind between a secondary school education and a post-secondary school education because of my eye condition. I took the Arts stream because of my passion in humanities especially Literature. My downfall was in H1 Mathematics because of its hyper visual demands in topics like graphs and diagrams. After discussion with the school committee, the general consensus was for me to look for another path in a polytechnic.

Because of my O level aggregate score lacking parity to qualify for a more theory oriented course like Psychology, Business or Law, I ended up settling for a Diploma in Information and Technology and the same thing happened. Although I managed to pull through for the first semester because of the lack of visually demanding components like coding, when they eventually set in, history repeated itself. Me and my parents sat down with the course manager and I was advised to look for another path.

Recalling from a past stint, I have played for the Bowling Association for the Disabled of Singapore (BADS) when I was younger so I thought I should give that passion of mine a second try now that I have nothing else to pursue. I managed to pick up the skills fast enough and before I knew it, I was in the very exclusive elite squad. I was then chosen to represent Singapore in the 2017 Dubai Asian Youth Paralympic Games with my team and we trained very hard. All of our coaches were confident that we have the potential to clinch medals. However, a week before we were to depart to the country, the Dubai officials recanted bowling as a scheduled sport for the Dubai Asian Youth Paralympic Games. Initially, I was planning to win the games and hopefully use the winning money to put it into the costs for my pursuits in literature and fund my studies in preferably, Scotland. However, it seems that the chance for me to achieve that is getting slimmer and a hope that is slowly fading.

I do not come from a financially gifted background. My dad had just been unceremoniously retrenched and is now scrambling for another job. My parents are also entering their elder years and would not be able to support me for much longer. I am in desperate need to fulfill my passion and then pursue a career in the same field to then support my aging parents.

After some research online, I found out that in many countries, an O level certificate coupled with an English Proficiency Test certificate is sufficient to qualify to a university. So, I enrolled for the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) test for my university admission. The results came and ... I did well for the test. I qualified for entry in many universities in the UK. I have always had a fascination in Literature like poems, prose and ballads and I would like to study and create my own art. Seeing that the UK has mothered many renowned poets, I would think that thus, I should pursue this passion of mine in its country of origin.

The funds will be used for my tuition fees, scool resources, accomodation and the remaining are for my parents. As such, I humbly besiege any help and contribution that the kindness of your heart allow for my future for I do not deserve a single penny from anyone. However, i swear on my life and the god that i believe in that should I achieve the targeted amount, i shall be transparent with my transactions and use it for not but for the endeavors that i had stated above. Thank you for taking time to read my story. "

Hi everyone, I am Mohamad Farez. I first knew Naufal when we stepped into the same school for our A level journey. While we went our separate ways when he left after his first year, I am humbled to say that he has been one of the most resilient person I have ever met. For all the things that he went through as a result of his condition, be it bullying or simply his difficulty to live and learn like how we did, he truly have inspired me and provided meaning in my own journey and definitely, in others around him. I hope that we can help him achieve his passion in any way. One of it could be through this platform and that whatever amount of money should not matter. For those without a debit/credit card or if a bank transfer is what some of you may prefer instead, you can contact Naufal for his details. If nothing else, I believe that the least we can do to support him is by sharing this around with people who may have taught or interacted with him or simply, anyone that might be surprisingly willing to contribute in any other way. Thank you.
