WHO: Brayden Green SPORT: Plantbased Athlete WHAT & WHEN: Naturally Fit Games Austin, TX - June 6th 2015 tip June 7th 2015 My vegan lifestyle all started in October of 2011 when I landed my first job out of school at the meat works on the slaughter floor. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into and was shocked as to what I saw. I couldn't believe how meat had gotten on to our supermarket shelves and felt it was not right for me to work here or to any longer eat meat if I disagreed with the manner of which it was produced. I saw the season through and never looked back and since then took on a fully plant based diet a long with my sport which was rugby playing for one of my regionals premiere teams and also making representative squads so that I could be at optimal performance I did a lot of research in to what foods would keep me healthy, fit and strong to perform at my sports on a plant based diet. I have found this lifestyle has made me flourish as an amazing athlete but in the midst of it all I unfortunately sustained an injury leading to minor nerve damage in my lower spine which made me feel I had to leave the sport as I did not want to make the injury any more serious. I had given up sport but I was still going to the gym to keep fit but I just felt I lacked the drive and motivation without a goal. March last year (2013) I decided to go on a working holiday to Melbourne Australia and during my 8 months there I met a man by the name of Luke Tan who was a vegan bodybuilder and strength coach and I started to train under him and get nutritional advice and since meeting this man who is now the founder of Team Evolved Generation set me on the path of bodybuilding and I was compelled to set a goal within a years time. As my passion grew for plantbased health and fitness has deepened through my bodybuilding journey, my love of life flourished to become healthy, happy, strong and 100% Cruelty FREE. I am a wellness advocate on behalf of plantbased nutrition who hopes to inspire others. I love encouraging people to reach their full potential and empowering them with positive lifestyle changes and become the strongest version of themselves Jump forward to May 16th 2014 I had long since been back in New Zealand and now about to step foot on stage for my first bodybuilding competition at the Christchutrch Grand Prix. At this event I placed 3rd in the WFF juniors category. With this I was ecstatic and the fire was ignited! I was compelled to continue this journey, especially with being the only vegan competitor it sparked real interest. Since then the start of my bodybuilding career has grown I am now a member of Team Evolved Generation which is a plant based athlete team which has started in Melbourne by Luke Tan and we are linked up with Team Plantbuilt a group of vegan athletes in America who compete every year at the Naturally Fit Games in Austin, Texas and wish for us to join them in 2015! So me and the Evolved Generation team are doing our best to fundraise for ourselves to get there. To achieve my goal of competing in the Naturally Fit Games, which is on the 6th – 7th June 2015, I need to raise funds to cover the major expenses for this trip; flights, accommodation and competition costs. The costs of competing add up very quickly; flying in to get to the competition all the way in America, staying in a hotel as well as all of the costs of preparing for the competition; such as a coach and nutrition, and even the competition presentation. Athletes are looking at anything from $3500 to $5,000. I would love to represent New Zealand. Your support would be so much appreciated. I am now about to step on stage for the NABBA/WFF Nationals in Auckland which is October 11th 2014 which might have been by the time you read this. So far all my competitions I have worked hard and paid for myself and now its starting to get quite tight for me so anyone willing to help me further myself would mean the world to me and would thank you from the bottom of my heart.
