Our family has been actively sponsoring a Mongolian child through WorldVision Singapore charity program for the last 7 years. We tell ourselves that we will one day visit the famous Mongolia steppes and to connect with our sponsored child; finally we got the chance this year to join WorldVision on a trip to Mongolia to meet with our sponsored child and to experience first-hand their life in Uvurkhangai, Mongolia.

The meeting with our sponsored child was emotional and delightful - for the last 7 years, we saw her growth through letters and report cards; to finally meet her in person (she was taller than me, at 14 years old) healthy, happy and with youthful ambitions, we are so glad to have made the sponsorship in the 1st place and made some difference in this young lady's life. She and her family are appreciative of our sponsorship and more importantly our donations through WorldVision had also benefited the entire community in Uvurkhangai, to create awareness for clean water & sanitation, food & nutrition, education and ensuring long term sustainability in their livelihood (Mongolia's economy is at the brink of bankruptcy and many of their nomads' livelihood may be severely impacted when their herds are always at the risk of being wiped out during long, harsh winter).

One striking impression left on me during this Mongolia trip is how people from 1st world country takes clean water, sanitation & a proper toilet for granted. In Mongolia, school children and even toddlers in kindergartens have to brave cold winters to queue for and use a sad looking wooden shack toilet, no warm water is available for hand washing and not to mention, proper soap to disinfect. This had led to negative hygiene attitudes and constant poor health among the children & community. Something as simple as a clean, sheltered toilet with warm water and soap can go miles in helping them improve hygiene and their mortality rates.

WorldVision Singapore is helping Uvurkhangai build more toilets in schools to help improve their hygiene and sanitation issues. I know they are still short of their funding target and thus would like to create my own personal project to help!

My funding target is $5500, the donations will go to WorldVision Singapore.

In appreciation, for every kind soul who donates $50 and more, I will be sending you a handmade natural stone bracelet.

^ Design of bracelet will be random and will be mailed to you at the end of campaign period.
